Sikkim completes 3 days without any new Covid cases

Sikkim today completed three consecutive days without recording any new Covid infections and the cumulative count of confirmed cases since testing began more than two years back on 28 Feb, 2020, at 39,143.

Furthermore, no Covid deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours and the toll continues to hold at 452. The last Covid fatality in Sikkim was recorded on 27 March, last month.

With new infections having tapered off [the State had gone four days without any new cases last week], daily recovery numbers are also low and no recovery was recorded in the past 24 hours. Thus far, 37,940 people have beaten the virus and made full recoveries to give Sikkim a recovery rate of 98.8%.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department on Thursday morning, all the 159 samples screened for SARS CoV2 returned negative today.

At present, there are five active cases of Covid-19 in Sikkim, of whom two are down with severe symptoms and are currently admitted in ICU at Central Referral Hospital, Tadong. The three others are meanwhile either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms and are recovering under home isolation.

In the meanwhile, Sikkim administered 649 doses of corBEvax vaccine to children aged between 12 to 14 years and 191 doses of Covaxin among the 15 to 18 age-group [71 first dose and 120 second dose] on Wednesday. 66.78% of the 15-18 age-group is now fully vaccinated in Sikkim.

The state also administered 117 doses of Covishield vaccine in the above-18 age-group, 14 first dose and 103 second dose, increasing the proportion of fully vaccinated adults in Sikkim to 95.13%.

Also yesterday, 253 people received their precautionary third dose in Sikkim. Thus far, 40,853 people have been given the booster dose in Sikkim.
