Sikkim conducts 2nd dry runfor COVID-19 vaccination


Gangtok, 08 Jan: Sikkim conducted its second dry run of COVID-19 vaccination at Ayush Hospital, new STNM Hospital in Gangtok today. The dry run for COVID-19 vaccination was also conducted at 11 other

sites in the state which started at 10:00am. There were 25 beneficiaries enrolled in the Cowin app for each site. While talking to SummitTIMES, Health Minister Dr MK Sharma informed that today’s dry run is basically to ensure a systematic vaccination process when the vaccines arrive. Public of Sikkim seem to be aware as the number of Covid-19 cases have gone down these days, he said. News of the vaccines arriving soon has also boosted the will power of Sikkim’s citizens but people should not be careless,

he added. Health Secretary cum DG, Dr Pemba T Bhutia informed that today’s dry run was conducted at all District hospitals and in every PHC in all districts. As of now, there is no confirmed date for the arrival of vaccine, he added. When the vaccines arrive, health workers will be given priority followed by other frontline workers, Covid-19 patients and then other patients, informed Dr Bhutia. As things stand, the vaccine will need to be given twice to a person, he added. Dr Bhutia said that it is not known yet if there will be another dry run but the state will follow the national guidelines. Dr Bhutia and the team also visited CRH Tadong where the dry run for Covid-19 vaccination was also being conducted and offered some advice to the hospital. The dry run was also attended by Medical Superintendent [STNM Hospital], Dr KB Gurung, Additional Medical Superintendent, Dr Yudok Bhutia, State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyalsten Bhutia, State Immunization Officer, Thumzay Denzongpa, Additional Director Immunization, Dr Tshering, Health Education Officer, Noday Lachungpa, Principal Director cum Mission Director NHM,

Dr T Yamphel along with the team of urban primary health center and other medical staff.
