Sikkim goes down to Arunachal in first match of Hero C’ship

Sikkim U-17 women’s team went down to Arunachal Pradesh in its first match in the ongoing Hero Women’s Junior National championship- 2022 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Guwahati, Assam on Tuesday. Sikkim lost the first match with the score-line 0-2 after missing four open net opportunities.

A Sikkim Football Association press release mentions that Sikkim missed the open net opportunity in the first ten minutes and again missed out another chance created by Lakshmi Tamang in the 19th minute which was not capitalised by the strikers Simran Gurung and Priya Chhetri. The same thing happened in ten minutes of the second half when Sikkim got two open net opportunities and in 92 minutes the striker got an open net head goal opportunity, but the result was the same.

Arunachal Pradesh scored the first goal in 25 minutes due to miscommunication between the defender and goal keeper. In the 75th minute Arunachal scored a second goal successfully. On a positive note, Sikkim conceded a penalty in the 35th minute which was nicely saved by goalkeeper Premika Chhetri.

Sikkim coach Allen Lepcha said, “Team didn’t get sufficient rest due to train problems, morning schedule was not favourable. After seeing the huge stadium ground the team looked nervous in the changing room, but there shouldn’t be any excuses because the team had a sufficient coaching camp period, and definitely Sikkim team was the superior team. Ultimately, we lost against Arunachal by score 0 - 2 goals. Sikkim The team is ready to fight with Goa on 24th June.”
