Sikkim goes without any Covid deaths for three days for third time in 112 days
Gangtok, 26 Aug: With no Covid deaths reported in the past 24 hours, Sikkim went three days without a
Covid fatality only for the third time in the 112 days that the second wave has kept Sikkim in its grips
since 22 April, 2021. The only other set of three days without any Covid deaths here were 12-14 June and 2-4 July. The number of Covid deaths in Sikkim has held at 367 for three days now. 231 of the Covid deaths have come in the second wave alone. Meanwhile, both, the number of new cases and the number of new recoveries, came in double- digits for the past 24 hours. As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department on Thursday morning, while 73 new cases were picked in the past 24 hours, 79 people made full recoveries and were discharged from home and facility isolation over the same period.
The 73 fresh cases were detected from the testing of 804 samples on Wednesday giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 9%. The tally of confirmed cases reported so far since testing began on 28 Feb, 202, has now reached 29,597. While 39 of the new cases were picked up in RTPCR testing of 316 samples, 34 tested positive in rapid antigen testing of 804 samples. Out of the 73 new cases, 41 were reported in East District, 18 in West District, nine in South District and five in North District. There are currently 1,409 active Covid cases in the State, of whom only 99 are admitted in hospital and the rest are recovering under home or facility isolation. Of those in hospital, only four are under 18 years of age and one of them is in the ICU. In all, there are 12 Covid patients admitted in ICU facilities of STNM hospital and Central Referral Hospital
