Sikkim loses 453rd life to Covid, first fatality after more than two months

Covid claimed a life in Sikkim after a gap of more than two months with a 61-year-old succumbing to the virus while under home isolation here in East Sikkim in the past 24 hours. The 452nd Covid fatality in Sikkim was on 27 March earlier this year.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, also over the same 24 hours, one new infection was recorded at a daily test positivity rate of 1% from the screening of 104 samples.

This new case was picked up in East Sikkim through Rapid Antigen Testing.

The tally of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Sikkim since testing began more than two years ago has now reached 39,175.

There are currently nine active cases of Covid in the State, of whom one is down with a severe infection and currently admitted in ICU at CRH, Tadong, while the rest are recovering under home isolation.

On the vaccination front, 52 children in 12 to 14 age-group were vaccinated with CorBEvax and 18 in 15 to 18 age-group received their Covaxinshots on Wednesday. While only one adult received the regular Covishield jab, 16 others took their precautionary third dose yesterday.
