Sikkim records 13 new cases, completes 12 days without any Covid deaths

Sikkim today reported 13 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally of confirmed cases since testing began here on 28 Feb, 2020, to 32,543. These 13 cases were picked up from the screening of 236 samples yesterday to give Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 5.5%.

All the 13 new cases were registered in East District.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, while seven of the cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 103 samples, six people tested positive in rapid antigen testing of 133 samples.

On the other hand, five Covid patients were discharged from home isolation on Tuesday after making complete recoveries, and with this, the number of recovered cases has inched up to 31,727 in Sikkim. Sikkim's current recovery rate stands at 98.5%.

There are 65 active cases of Covid-19 in the State, of whom six are currently admitted in hospital, two of them in the ICU.

Reassuringly for Sikkim, with no Covid deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the toll continues to hold at 409, a number Sikkim held still on since 23 December, 2020.

As for the Covid vaccination drive, 3,443 children aged between 15 to 18 years received their Covaxin jabs yesterday. Now, 7,873 of the State's 42,000 children in this age-group have received the first dose of the vaccine.

In the 18+ category, to whom Covishield vaccine is being given, 153 people received the jab yesterday, 27 getting their first jab and 126 completing their vaccination schedule with the second dose.
