Sikkim’s COVID-19 update
Gangtok, 28 May:
Another highest single-day surge of 420 fresh cases of novel coronavirus has been recorded in the last 24 hours in Sikkim. This is the highest number of new cases recorded in a single day so far in the State and the figure of new cases of coronavirus has crossed 400-mark in a single day for the second time after 408 new cases registered on 27 May. Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far has now reached 14,634.
Out of 420 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, 235 cases were registered in East District followed by 136 cases in South District, 47 in West District and 02 in North District. These new cases were detected in the testing of 1422 samples for COVID-19 in the State on Thursday, in which 353 cases were found in RT-PCR testing of 987 samples, 66 more persons were reported positive in rapid antigen testing of 429 samples and one more case was detected in CBNAAT testing of six samples.
In the meantime, three more persons have lost their life to coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours taking Sikkim’s COVID death toll to 243. One COVID death has been reported from STNM hospital and two more COVID deaths were reported from Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
On the other hand, the figure of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim has further improved to 10,385 as 227 more persons were discharged from home isolation after completing their isolation period.
With the surge in new cases in the State, the active cases of coronavirus have also increased to 3794 in Sikkim. Fourteen COVID patients are currently in ICU facility of STNM hospital and 11 are in ICU of Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
