Sikkim’s Covid death-toll goes past 150; Daily cases stay above 230

Gangtok, 04 May: With both the VRD Labs in the State returning to testing after a Sunday break, daily

cases today returned to the above-200 mark they have settled into in Covid-19’s second wave.

As per the daily Covid Chart released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the

Health Department, 230 new cases of novel coronavirus were detected in the last 24 hours [as of

8AM 04 May] taking the state’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 8,698. As per the chart, one

more death was recorded in the State during the same 24 hours, taking the State’s official death

toll to 151. This passing away of a Covid-positive person was reported from Rangpo PHC, it is

informed. Sources at the STNM Hospital also inform that there were more fatalities in the Covid Ward of

the hospital later in the evening, but these will be officially communicated and confirmed in the Covid Chart tomorrow. Meanwhile, there are now 1,930 active cases of coronavirus in Sikkim. Of these, 10 patients are admitted in the ICU facility of STNM Hospital. As for hospitalisation, 29 more Covid-positive people were admitted to hospital today after developing symptoms requiring medical intervention.

While 15 of them were admitted into CRH-Tadong, 12 were admitted to STNM Hospital and two at Namchi District Hospital. There are currently 160 Covid patients in hospital at present, 106 of them at STNM Hospital, 45 at CRH-Tadong and nine at Namchi District Hospital. There are also 1,610 Covid-positive people in home isolation across the State at present. Of the 230 new cases, 186 were detected in East District, 17 in West District, 19 in South District and eight in North Sikkim. The new cases were

picked up from the 799 samples tested on Monday - 174 were detected in RT-PCR testing of 645

samples, three in CBNAAT of five samples and 53 in rapid antigen testing of 149 samples. On the other hand, 22 more persons were released from the home isolation after completing their isolation period

and with this the figure of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim stands at 6,426.
