Sikkim's daily test positivity jumps to 4%

Sikkim’s daily test positivity rate for Covid-19 came in at 4% on Wednesday with five fresh cases picked up from the screening of 126 samples in the past 24 hours. As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department on Wednesday morning, one Covid patients also made a full recovery over the same period to leave the State with 13 active Covid cases.

While 12 of these Covid patients are either asymptomatic or have presented only mild symptoms - and one patient is down with a severe infection - six of them are admitted in hospital. Of the six, two are minors under 18 years of age while one adult in admitted in ICU.

Since testing for Covid began in Sikkim over two years back on 28 Feb, 2020, a total of 39,198 cases have been recorded here. Of these, 751 patients migrated out after testing positive while 37,981 have made full recoveries.

As per the IDSP report , of the five new cases, four were picked up in RT-PCR testing while the fifth was detected via rapid antigen testing.

No Covid deaths were reported in Sikkim in the past 24 hours and the toll continues to hold at 453.

In continuation of vaccination drive, Sikkim administered 75 doses of CorBEvax to children aged between 12 to 14 years and 31 doses of Covaxin to those in 15 to 18 age-group on Tuesday. Similarly, 53 adults received their regular Covishield shots while 85 others took the precautionary third dose.
