Sikkim’s under-20 daily count continues with only 13 new Corona cases

Thirteen fresh cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Sikkim in the last 24 hours taking the state’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 6,024 on Friday. With this, Sikkim’s daily infection count remained under 20, a lower rate of infection that has held through the new year thus far.

In the meantime, the number of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim reached 5,636 with the discharge of 12 more Covid-positive people from facility and home isolations.

There are currently 163 active cases of novel coronavirus in Sikkim, of whom two are admitted in the ICU facility of the COVID-dedicated STNM Hospital.

In his daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia, informed that 13 new cases of novel coronavirus in the State were reported from the testing of 206 samples on Thursday.

While 11 new cases were detected in the RT-PCR testing of 159 samples, two more people were found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing of 42 samples. All thirteen new cases were reported in East District.

While providing details of the new cases, Mr Bhutia informed that three persons from Ranipool, one from Assam Lingzey, one from Singtam and one from near Aho Pul, Saramsa, in East District were found positive for COVID-19.

Among the new cases reported from in and around the capital are one person from near Tamang Gumpa in Sichey, one from Swastik, one from Deorali Girls School Road and one from near Lingding Dara in Indira Bye-Pass area.

Two persons from Rabongla in South District and one person from Gurung Gaon, Dikchu in North District have also tested positive, but since they got tested at the STNM Hospital Flu Clinic, they are being counted under East district.
