Sikkim turns the curve on Covid – new cases insingle-digits, active cases drop to double-digits

Gangtok, 29 Jan: The number of active cases of novel coronavirus in Sikkim dropped to double-digits on Friday from the above-100 number that has held for months. There are now 97 active cases of nCoV

in Sikkim following the report that only one new case was detected today even as eight more patients

of COVID-19 were discharged in the last 24 hours. Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has now reached 6,085, of which 5,760 have already recovered. In his daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia informed that the single case of novel coronavirus was reported from the testing of 179 samples on Thursday. This case was found in the testing of 113 samples by RT-PCR testing, while eight samples tested by TrueNat and 58 samples by rapid antigen testing all returned negative. This one new case is a person from below the Helipad area in Burtuk, East District. As for the vaccination drive, Mr Bhutia informed that on Friday, 274 more health workers were vaccinated for COVID-19 in Sikkim. These include 90 health workers from STNM Hospital, 90 from Central Referral Hospital, Tadong, 30 from West District and 64 from North District.
