Singtam Open Badminton Tournaments concludes with trophies and a feicitation

Gangtok, 20 Mar:

Sahil Pradhan and Amon Rai from Badminton Association of Jorethang lifted the Men's Doubles title at the 1st Singtam Open Badminton Tournament outplaying Wangyal Lepcha and Riwaj Rai from Gangtok today.

More than 125 players from different parts of Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri participated in the tournament organized by the Singtam Badminton Association and played at the Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam.

Finals of all six categories were held today and had Health Minister Dr MK Sharma as chief guest.

The Minister, who is also the chief patron of Singtam Badminton Association, handed over an amount of Rs 3 lakh to Dr JB Gurung, president, SBA, for the development of the game in Singtam.

The late Dr AH Khan, a well-known name in and around Singtam, was posthumously felicitated for his contributions towards society, including sports. The felicitation was received by the late Doctor's wife, Cheday Phigu Bhutia.

As for the tournament, Uttam Jindal and Sunandita Bhist (also of BAJ) defeated Riwaj Rai and Sangey Bhutia (YSS, Gangtok) to win the Mixed Doubles title and the team of Santanu Bose and Allen Rongkup (DDBA) lifted two titles in the 35+ doubles and the 40+ doubles. They defeated the teams of Hemant Rai and Arjun Tamang & Aswini Agarwal and Prasanjit Saha respectively.

In the 45+ doubles, Aswini Agarwal and Prasanjit Saha defeated Sajan Limboo and Rajendra Maskey, players from Namchi.

The next final saw Sajan Limboo and Rajendra Maskey (Badminton Association of Namchi) winning the 50+ doubles final against Ashim Bhowmick and Priyaranjan Paul from Siliguri (DDBA).
