The party’s Zone-2 office on Machong Road at Pakyong bazaar was also inaugurated on the day. Also on the day, familiar SDF face on social media, Tenzing Bhutia, popularly known as DJ Bolo, who had

recently resigned from the former ruling party, formally joined the SKM. The release goes on to inform that 452 families switched sides from the SDF and joined SKM today. Among them were 20 sitting panchayats, two zilla panchayat members, two former zilla panchayats, one ex-panchayat and other prominent members of SDF party. In his joining address, “DJ Bolo” explained that he was convinced to

join SKM after seeing the humility and downto- earth nature of Chief Minister PS Tamang and lashed out against his former party and leader alleging that SDF had no respect for hardworking party cadre and that while in office, the former CM entertained only the elite. This, he said, was in stark contrast to the present Mintokgang which was always open for the underprivileged. He also took a dig at the former CM and remarked that for the 25 years that he was Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling celebrated his

birthday only with the elite and was noticing party workers only now. Mr Chamling celebrated his birthday at the party HQ in Gangtok today. The party’s area incharge, retired DIG of Sikkim Police, Tshering Bhutia, in his address remarked that although SKM couldn’t win Gnathang-Machong in 2019, the government has not deprived people of development. In 2024, Gnathang Machong will be resoundingly won by SKM, he added. Mr Khaling, in turn, explained that because of the pandemic, the

party could not hold meetings for two years and was now resuming its strengthening activities and also

informing people more actively about the SKM government’s initiatives. The constituency level meetings were also to gather grievances from grassroots to inform policy interventions in the coming days, he said.
