SMIT’s NSS members offer volunteer work at Old Age Home

National Service Scheme members at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology offered volunteer work at an old-age home near Ranipool today, an SMIT press release informs.

The “shramdaan” saw the NSS unit carry sand from the ground floor to the third floor for the construction underway there after which they interacted with the residents and performeda cultural programme for them, the release adds.

The team also visited Raj Bhawan after offering their labour at the old age home and undertook a plantation drive there.

While addressing the students,the Governor stressed that the students should use their education in engineering to create employment opportunities and serve the community.

“If you want to make yourself successful then don't limit yourself to the job. You don't have to be the only job taker. You have to be a job provider. When you will use your education to strengthen the poor people, then only you will become a successful citizen,” the release quotes the Governor as saying.
