SRM Hosts ‘Young Master Chef Sikkim 2022’

Gangtok, 04 Aug:

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies at SRM University hosted the ‘Young Master Chef Sikkim 2022’ cooking contest for school students in collaboration with Vivanta Sikkim Pakyong on 04 Aug, a press release informs.

The competition was organized in two stages. The first stage was conducted online, with participation from 15 schools. The second stage happened offline, on campus, with 9 teams cooking Indo-Chinese, Mexican and local cuisine.

The last round was a mystery basket challenge, in which contestants could make anything of their choosing from a given set of ingredients.

The winners of the contest were Yozna Lepcha and Bishal Bista of Modern Senior Secondary School and the runner up was Kunga Dolma Bhutia of St Xavier’s Pakyong.

Executive Chef, Siddhartha Saha Roy,Vivanta was the chief guest for ‘Young Master Chef 2022’ and also the judge of the event. HR Manager, Sutanu Biswas,Vivanta was the guest of honour.

The felicitation of restaurateur, Titus Rai and gold-medallist alumnus of the School was a special feature of the afternoon.

In his address to the gathering, Siddhartha Roy remarked on the impressive talent of all the contestants and how inspirational the programme was. Vice Chancellor, Prof ChSatish Kumar,SRM University, spoke of the ongoing endeavours to encourage young talent from Sikkim.

Further, Prof Kumar stressed on how team effort and professionalism are key to ensure success, not just in culinary activities but in all areas of effort.
