State-level contests held for Kala Utsav 2021

State-level competitions for Kala Utsav 2021, an initiative of the Ministry of Education to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students, were held on the virtual mode on 01 and 02 December, a press release informs.

33 students competed in various performing art forms over the two days from the NICs at the districts and were graded by judges who joined the contest online while Education Department officials viewed the proceedings from the NIC Video Conferencing Hall here in Gangtok.

Winners of Kala Utsav are: Folk dance [male] Sumiran Sharma of Rhenock Senior Secondary School; Dance-Folk [female] Hema Maley, Samdong SSS; Dance-Classical [female] Shital Chowdary, Dikchu SSS; Vocal Music- folk [male] Anurag Sewa, Namchi SSS; Vocal Music-folk [female] Ledamit Lepcha , EMRS, Swayem; Vocal Music-classical [male] Achut Sharma, Machong SSS; Vocal Music-Classical [female] Amisha Kami, Singtam SSS; Instrumental music Folk [male] Samdup Lepcha, Mangan SSS; Instrumental Music-Classical [male] Abhishek Lohar, Tadong SSS; Visual Art-2D [male] Topgay Sherpa, Uttarey SSS; Visual Art -2D [female] Chundi Zangmu Bhuta, VCGL, Ravangla; Visual Art-3D [male] Tshering Lhendup Lepcha, Mangan SSS;

Kala Utsav, a press release informs, was organized by the Education Department under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha and was inaugurated by ACS, Education Department, GP Upadhyaya.

State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Bhim Thatal, presented an overview on Kala Utsav on the inaugural day.

Children with Special Needs (CwSN), the release adds, were also encouraged to participate and express their talents.

The best solo performers in each domain of arts selected at the State Level Competition will represent the State at the National Level Competition scheduled to be held virtually from 01 to 12 January, 2022.
