Sunday slow down in testing brings Sikkim only 5 new Covid cases

The Sunday slow-down in Sikkim resulted in the State recording only five new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours taking the state’s tally of confirmed cases thus far to 32,374.

These five cases were picked up from the testing of 135 samples, much fewer than usual, giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 3.7%.

Of the new cases, three were registered in East District [from 72 samples] and two in West District [from 41 samples]. All the 18 samples screened in South Sikkim and four in North Sikkim returned negative.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, while RT-PCR testing of 64 samples returned three positive cases, two more cases were reported in rapid antigen testing of 71 samples.

In the meantime, six Covid-positive people were discharged from home isolation on Sunday after completing their prescribed isolation period. The number of recovered cases has now reached 31,414 and the state’s current recovery rate is 98.1%.

Reassuringly, no Covid death was reported in the State in the past 24 hours and the toll continues to hold at 405.

There are 214 active Covid cases in Sikkim at present, of whom only 13 are in hospital and the remaining are either asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms and are recovering under home isolation.

Of the 13 in hospital, only one is in ICU at present.

Two Covid patients were admitted in hospital yesterday, both under 18 years of age and at present, three of the 13 in hospital are under-18.
