Tashiling vandals are history-sheeters: Sikkim Police

Summit Report

Gangtok, 24 Feb:

The two brothers arrested by Sikkim Police, apart from being suspects in two burglaries in Gangtok before their Tashiling adventure, have also reportedly served time in Kalimpong jail before arriving in Sikkim.

Parading the two accused reportedly arrested from their home in a village in Kalimpong district, West Bengal, Sikkim Police top brass today informed that they were led to the brothers after someone in Kalimpong recognised them from the CCTV grab circulated by the police.

From the many tip-offs received by Sikkim Police in response to their appeal for information on the vandals, this one was the most comprehensive with the informer also directing cops to the social media handles of the brothers.

After cops here learned that the brothers had also served time in Kalimpong jail, they contacted authorities there and secured their address. The arrests followed.

As per the cops, the duo has admitted to vandalising the secretariat on the night of 15 Feb but have supposedly also claimed that they did not take away anything from Tashiling Secretariat despite having broken into and rummaged through several offices there.

The case is clearly in the early stages of investigation and more details are expected in the coming days.
