Tribute to Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal on Int’l Artists Day

GANGTOK, 11 Oct: Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School in association with Vivid Kala Akademi [VKA] and Journalist Union of Sikkim [JUS] is gearing up to celebrate the 129th birth anniversary of Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal on 26 Oct.

The organisers have also decided to celebrate International Artists Day in the same programme to pay tribute to the Chogyal for his contributions to development of art in Sikkim. International Artists Day is celebrated on 25 Oct every year.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, VKA president, Kiran Rasaily mentioned that the main highlight of the event would be a painting exhibition which will display work by national and international artists.

He expressed that Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal was a great artist and worked a lot for the promotion and development of art and education during his tenure in the State.

“This is an occasion to pay rich homage to the immense contributions of the Chogyal in the field of art. We are also trying to get in touch with the royal family to get paintings by the Chogyal for the exhibition,” he said.

Mr Kiran stated that the celebration will also have cultural presentations by TNSSS students following the required COVID-19 protocol. He informed that artist, Dr Swarna Anil from Delhi will give her presentation on Indian art and especially on Himalayan art.

Senior journalist Prabin Khaling will speak on the life and contribution of Russian artist, Nicholas Roerich who had spent some time in the State. The resource persons in the programme will also highlight the contribution of the Chogyal in the field of art.

JUS general secretary, Sujal Pradhan expressed his happiness on collaborating with VKA and assured that the organization will play an active role in highlighting the works and contributions of the Chogyal.
