Two new Covid cases, one recovery in Sikkim

The number of active cases of Covid-19 inched up to 14 on Thursday with two new cases and one recovery recorded in Sikkim.

The two new cases came in at a daily test positivity rate of 1.7% and were detected from the screening of 117 samples. The tally of confirmed cases since testing began here more than two years back has now reached 39,200.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, both the cases were picked up in rapid antigen testing of 45 samples while all the 72 samples put through RT-PCR returned negative.

Also over the past 24 hours, one Covid patient made a full recovery and was discharged from home isolation taking number of so recovered cases to 37,982.

As per the IDSP report, of the 14 active cases, one is currently admitted in ICU, while five, including a minor, are in the regular Covid wards. The remaining eight are currently recovering under home isolation.

Sikkim’s Covid-related death toll continues to hold at 453 with no new Covid deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

In continuation of the vaccination drive, Sikkim administered 95 doses of CorBEvax to children aged between 12 to 14 years and 46 doses of Covaxin to those in the 15 to 18 age-group on Wednesday. Similarly, 34 adults received their regular Covishield shots while 63 others took their precautionary third dose of Covishield yesterday.
