Winners of BUD20 feted by SRM-Sikkim

SRM University Sikkim organized an awards ceremony for winners of BUD20-Business Ideation Contest today. The programme was presided over by Minister Arun Upreti, an official press release informs.

Dr Jayshree Suresh, Barnabas Sherpa and Yash Marda, who served as jury members for BUD20, were also present at the event to felicitate the winners and encourage all the participants.

The Minister congratulated the participants and commended the University for conceiving and executing an event that promotes the culture of entrepreneurship, and which will contribute to tackling the problem of unemployment in the state.

Conceived by the Department of Commerce under the aegis of the vice-chancellor, Prof Ch Satish Kumar, to encourage and promote young aspiring entrepreneurs in Sikkim, the long-term aim of BUD-Business Ideation Contest is to develop a vibrant ecosystem for entrepreneurial activities in the state capital.

In his address, Prof. Kumar congratulated the team for successfully executing the event.

He went on to say, ‘This award ceremony marks the conclusion of the ideation round. We now look forward to handholding these ideas on their way to scaling-up and eventual success.’ He also stressed the importance of the BUD20 magazine which was released at the function as a useful tool for subsequent steps in the scaling-up process which will also include investors’ meets. Further he announced that BUD20 would continue as an annual event.

The winning entry, which received the title ‘Young Businessperson Award’ and a cash prize of Rs 25,000 went to Shradda Sharma.

Enosh Chhetri and Bavyesh Luitel were first and second runners-up, respectively.

The top-ten ideas of the contest, including the winning entries, will receive grooming and handholding from the Commerce Department and the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the University to ensure their development and eventual success.
