With nearly 86% vaccination coverage, Covid hospitalisations remain low in Sikkim

Of the 177 active cases of Covid in the State, only 22 are with symptoms severe enough to require hospitalisation and only six of whom are in ICU. Apart from the fact that Covid had a brutal run through Sikkim in the second wave, it also helps that the vaccination drive has covered nearly the entire adult population of the State. As per the latest official update on vaccination in Sikkim, with 4,025 more people completing their vaccination schedule yesterday, 85.38% of the adult population here is now fully vaccinated.
As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department, the daily test positivity rate came in 2.1% today with 13 new cases detected from the testing of 604 samples. Of these, 05 were registered in East District and 08 in West District.
In another reassuring note, no new Covid deaths were reported in the past 24 hours and Sikkim’ Coviddeath toll continues to hold at 395.
While 10 of the new cases were detected from RT-PCR testing of 315 samples, three were picked up in rapid antigen testing of 285 samples. Sikkim’s tally of confirmed Covidcases currently stands at 31,925.
Also over the past 24 hours, eight more COVID patients were discharged from home isolation on Tuesday after making full recoveries to further improve the number of recovered Covidcases in Sikkim to 31,030. The state’s current recovery rate stands at 98.2%.
