With only 5 new cases, Sikkim’s active Covid count drops to 158
GANGTOK, 16 Jan: Five persons were reported positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours ending 8 AM Saturday. Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 6029, in which 5646 patients have already been recovered and discharged so far from the home and facility isolations. It has to be mentioned here that the State has witnessed 10 more recoveries in the last 24 hours. The active cases of novel coronavirus in Sikkim have now further reduced to 158, of whom two are currently in the ICU facility of COVID-dedicated STNM hospital.
In his daily health bulletin on Saturday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia mentioned that of the five new cases in Sikkim, four were reported in East District and one in West District. The state has reported five fresh cases from the testing of 206 samples, in which three were registered in RT-PCR testing of 143 samples and two were found in the rapid antigen testing of 58 samples, he added.
While giving the details of new cases reported from in and around Gangtok, Mr Bhutia informed that one person from Kazi Road, one from Decheling and one from Chandmari. Likewise, one person from Gangyap, West District was also tested positive for COVID-19.
He mentioned that one 22-years-old lady from Hee-Gyathang, who gave sample for COVID testing at Flu Clinic of STNM hospital and reported positive for COVID-19, was not traceable over the phone number submitted during the testing and she was urged to immediately contact the concerned authority.
