SUMMIT REPORT, Gangtok 10 Mar:

Governor Om Prakash Mathur attended the third Convocation of Khangchendzonga State University at Chintan Bhavan on Sunday.

The Governor, who also serves as the Chancellor of KSU, was accompanied by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), and Education Minister Raju Basnet.

The Governor awarded gold and silver medals to students of Sanskrit and Nepali departments for their outstanding academic performance. A total of 43 degree holders were conferred their degrees during the ceremony.

Additionally, the Governor released the University Research Journal during the programme.

Congratulating the awardees, distinction holders, and medal winners, the Governor expressed his delight in attending the convocation ceremony. He emphasized the significance of education in shaping society, the state, and the nation.

He commended Khangchendzonga State University for its dedication to providing quality education and essential facilities to students, despite operating from a temporary campus. Acknowledging the university’s role as a torchbearer of education in the region, he encouraged adherence to the guidelines set forth by the National Education Policy (NEP).

The Governor lauded KSU for its contribution to language preservation in Sikkim by incorporating regional languages as a primary area of study. He highlighted that language connects individuals to their roots and culture and expressed appreciation for the State Government’s initiative to include Sanskrit in schools and colleges.

Underscoring the importance of education, the Governor stated that it is the most valuable asset one can possess. He emphasized that the vision of the Prime Minister for a Viksit Bharat@2047 would be realized through the efforts and dedication of the students graduating today.

Furthermore, he urged the graduating students to stay connected with society and contribute at the grassroots level as they embark on their professional journeys. He encouraged them to aspire for greater heights while fostering societal development.

He also urged students to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination, quoting former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam: “Dream is not what you see in sleep, but it is the thing which doesn’t let you sleep.”

Currently, Khangchendzonga University offers programs in five major languages: Sanskrit, Nepali, Lepcha, Bhutia, and Limbu. The event was attended by officials from the Education Department, parents, and other distinguished guests.
