SUMMIT REPORT, Siliguri 10 Jan: In a significant meeting held today, Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sikkim, engaged with the Police Commissioner of Siliguri to address pressing issues impacting Sikkim and the surrounding hill regions. The discussions primarily revolved around a recent extortion incident involving a local driver (chalak) at NJP, Siliguri, which has raised serious concerns among the community.

Khaling presented a comprehensive dossier to the Commissioner, including newspaper clippings, social media evidence, and a formal complaint outlining the grievances related to the incident. He emphasized the urgency of the matter, highlighting the need for swift action to ensure justice for the victim and safeguard the well-being of people from Sikkim and neighboring areas.

The Police Commissioner responded positively, confirming that a thorough investigation has been initiated, led by a senior officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). He reassured Khaling that the safety of individuals, especially those from Sikkim, would be a top priority moving forward.

Additionally, Khaling raised concerns about the targeted inspections of vehicles with SK registration numbers and others from the hill regions. The Commissioner committed to issuing immediate directives to relevant authorities to address these issues.

The meeting concluded on a constructive note, with both parties expressing optimism about fostering a safer and more respectful environment for all community members. This collaborative effort marks a proactive step towards resolving ongoing safety concerns in the region.

Jacob Khaling remains hopeful that these decisive actions will pave the way for enhanced security and trust among residents of Sikkim and the hill areas.
