The Alcoholics Anonymous organization of North Bengal held a public information programme at Hotel Norpem Residency in Development Area here today to raise awareness against alcoholism.
The AA Convention was attended and addressed by many individuals and recovering alcoholics from Sikkim and North Bengal who have gone through the Alcoholic Anonymous programme. They shared their personal journeys of recovery and spoke about strategies to maintain long term sobriety.
“This program provides an opportunity for members to gather and share their experiences and challenges, and through group sharing, helps them connect with others at a personal level. The event will continue till 26 January,” informs Karma Chewang Nima, the founder of Freedom Facility Centre.
“The Alcoholics Anonymous is a worldwide organisation and this convention is conducted to tell people about the disease of alcoholism and how we should work on it. There is also Al-Anon that follows a 12-step program similar to Alcoholics Anonymous. The Al-Anon is a support fellowship for people whose lives have been affected by the someone else’s drinking,” Dr Shyam Gopal Nag, chairperson, AA North Bengal, adds.
