MP Lok Sabha, Dr Indra Hang Subba, attended a meeting of floor leaders of political parties in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, representing the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Kiren Rijiju, JP Nadda, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and L Murugan.
During the meeting, the Sikkim MP urged all major political parties to allow smooth functioning of the House, ensuring that members from smaller parties get the opportunity to participate effectively. He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for considering more speaking time for members of small political parties, an official press release informs.
He further emphasized the need for continued efforts to provide more opportunities for such members to voice their concerns.
Highlighting the importance of regional development, Dr Subba requested the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs to include discussions on the Demand for Grants for the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER). He stressed that MPs from the Northeast should be given priority in these discussions to contribute valuable insights and ideas for the development model of the region.
Additionally, he advocated for special discussions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Climate Change. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive dialogue on the risks and opportunities associated with AI, particularly in governance, economy, and job creation. He also raised concerns about the growing threat posed by expanding glacial lakes in the Himalayas due to climate change. He urged the House to hold discussions on the environmental impact of climate change on the Himalayas, including its effects on local communities, biodiversity, and disaster preparedness.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to raising issues that directly impact Sikkim and the Northeast region, ensuring that their voices are heard at the national level.
