Chetan Rai, Gangtok 21 Feb:
Samshon Tamang, the person with established notoriety in the region for his propensity to incite and provoke, continued to do so even after his arrest and transfer to Sikkim. No sooner had he crossed the Rangpo checkpost that he was allowed to be questioned by a media-person today. In a statement that soon went viral on social media, Samshon Tamang, apart from apologising to the Khas community of Sikkim for his offensive comments, accused the CAP president Ganesh Rai and Kurseong MLA BP Bajgain of having instigated/ coached him make the derogatory comments two weeks back.
Needless to add, Citizen Action Party-Sikkim, has denied and condemned the allegations, and its members, including the party president, arrived at Sadar Thana here and staged a protest.
CAP is demanding a CBI investigation into allegations being levelled by Samshon Tamang.
The CAP president, it is informed, arrived at Sadar Thana to lodge an FIR shortly after Samshon Tamang’s statement implicating him started circulating.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Rai alleged that the police refused to accept his FIR claiming that there were no legal provisions for such an FIR.
He added that earlier attempts by CAP to lodge an FIR against Samshon Tamang had also been turned down by Sikkim Police which recorded only a general diary on the issue.
Wondering why Sikkim Police was being so partisan in its handling of the issue, the CAP president pointed out that Samshon Tamang continues to sow discord and incite communal ill-will even after his arrest and while in the custody of Sikkim Police.
He stressed that CAP does not have faith in Sikkim Police is convinced that the case will not be investigated impartially by it. For this reason, CAP was demanding that the Samshon Tamang case, including his allegations against the CAP president, be handed over to CBI for investigation.
While addressing media-persons, the CAP president also cast aspersions on the journalist who managed to get Samshon Tamang on record at Rangpo today. These remarks have since been condemned by Press Club of Sikkim.
