Mangan, 26 Dec [IPR]: District water and sanitation management committee conducted a coordination meeting with stake holders on drinking water testing analysis and its remedial measure, at Zilla Panchayat Conference Hall of Mangan District Zilla Panchayat (MDZP), today.
The meeting was chaired by Kado Lepcha Adhakshya Mangan, also present in the meeting were, Sonam Kipa Zilla Upadhakshya Mangan, Karma Thendup DPO MDZP, Dr Rinzing T Bhutia District Medical Superintendent cum District Surveillance Officer Health & Family Welfare Department Mangan, Nima Dolma Sherpa Under Secretary MDZP, Netuk Lepcha Assistant Engineer RDD Passingdong, Tashi Topgay Sitar Assistant Engineer RDD Mangan, Sonam Pintso Bhutia Assistant Engineer RDD Kabi, Lyang Song Lepcha Micro Biologist State Drinking Water Quality Testing Lab Gangtok, Zilla Panchayats of District and officials from MDZP.
Upadhakshya Mangan in her address highlighted the recent increase in cases of waterborne diseases and emphasised the need for firm resolve to ensure quality drinking water.
To further improve the water testing process she asked barefoot engineers to improve coordination with State Drinking Water Quality Testing Lab Gangtok and use necessary resources for efficient tests.
Speaking on contamination of drinking water sources she advised the Zilla Panchayats and staff of GPUs to add proper fence around the water sources.
DPO MDZP in his welcome address stated that the meeting was also being conducted to tackle drinking water source contamination issues from few GPUs.
He further added that better coordination between MDZP, Zilla Panchayats and field officials are vital for ensuring safe drinking water.
District Medical Superintendent cum District Surveillance Officer gave a comprehensive power point presentation on waterborne diseases.
She pointed out various common diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery, Typhoid, Hepatitis and Leptospirosis with their signs & symptoms and treatments.
She also presented that through Integrated Health Information Platform how Health Department and Ministry keeps updates and records of different types of cases of diseases its dates, areas, numbers and commonness.
Mr Lepcha from Micro Biologist State Drinking Water Quality Testing Lab Gangtok earlier conducted a technical presentation on water lab testing, source collection, status of water sampling, contamination and decontamination of water source.
Later, Ms Sangkee Lepcha Infection Control Nurse demonstrated hand washing technique.
She demonstrated a simple steps of hand washing procedure.
